Getting Started
CROSSFIT UNITY MISSION STATEMENT: CrossFit Unity strives to take the "Scary" out of CrossFit. You do not need to be "In Shape" or a "Twenty year old Hardbody" to workout here. We are a facility for the person looking to GET in incredible shape.
Our membership is 70% female and our average age is 36yrs old.
We are a place for people looking to work hard, not waste time, and get results in a positive, supportive, professional environment.
We are career trainers. We went to school for this. This is not a hobby for us. We are not people that took a weekend course and magically became an expert. We have 10+yrs of training experience training children, pro athletes of all kinds, senior citizens, soccer moms, shift workers, etc. We have experience with all fitness levels and all are welcome.
Everyone gets 3 free sessions to try out CrossFit for themselves (as it is easier to experience than it is to explain).
You just need to:
A. Pick a class time to try out (www.crossfitunity.net/schedule). Just choose, you can not sign up online without paying until after your first visit.
B. Show up about 5 minutes ahead of the scheduled class time.
C. Be ready to warmup at the scheduled class time.
How it works:
-

You are done with the workout in about 10-15 minutes and you can go on with your day.
For those new to CrossFit, one needs to understand our approach and how it differs from traditional training. It is that difference that makes our programming excel.
Included in our gym membership is a coach and movement specialist that will serve as a motivator, instructor, and source of priceless information. I personally program the workouts and personally oversee many of the workout sessions. Each session is run like a class and will take less than 30 minutes. The instructor will give you the workout of the day (WOD). He or she will then coach you on the mechanics of the movements and their safety points. As the workout starts, the coach will push you to complete the workout to your greatest potential along with the other class participants.
We are a "minimalist program"and this is reflected by the functionality and limited number of our exercises and the simplicity of the equipment we use compared to most commercial gyms. We constantly vary the exercises, repetition ranges, exercise order, and intensity to create the most dynamic workout experience you have ever experienced. An Olympic weight set and a place to do pull-ups and dips is essential to doing CrossFit. Gymnastics rings and parallettes, plyometrics boxes, a Dynamax medicine ball, dumbbells, kettlebells, climbing rope, Concept II Rower, and a glute-ham developer are the principle pieces of equipment at our facility.
In any case it must be understood that the CrossFit workouts are extremely demanding and will tax the capacities of even the world's best athletes. We scale the workouts to each persons ability, but we use the same program. You will be advised to take on the WOD carefully, cautiously, and work first towards completing the workouts comfortably and consistently before "throwing" yourself at them 100%. The best results have come for those who've "gone through the motions" of the WOD by reducing recommended loads, reps, and sets while not endeavoring towards impressive times for a month before turning up the heat. We counsel you to establish consistency with the WOD before maximizing intensity.
You can find your greatest level of fitness, improve your performance and have the most fun you have ever had working out here at CrossFit Unity! If you are tired of the same old workout, come here and give us a try. I will see to it that it is the best workout experience of your life.
Look forward to seeing you there,
M. Shaun Holt M.D.
